My name is Emma Ducklin and I am a Clinical Psychologist with more than 11 years of experience working for the NHS in Adult Mental Health. I am Chartered with the British Psychological Society and registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council.
I tend to work in an integrative way which is tailored to individual need, and this often incorporates elements of psychodynamic, cognitive analytic and cognitive behaviour therapy, as these are the models I have the most training and experience in.
I strongly believe that experience of damaged and difficult relationships lie at the heart of most psychological distress, whatever form this distress may take. I also believe that working on relationships, with the support of a therapist, can go some way to helping people establish more healthy ways of engaging in relationships, thereby leading to a more fulfilling life experience.
I am confident and experienced in working with a wide range of psychological difficulties including anxiety, depression, perinatal mental health issues such as those caused by birth trauma, complicated grief, sexual trauma and abuse, self harm and suicidal ideation, eating difficulties, relationship difficulties, adjustment to chronic ill health, and work related stress.
I receive regular clinical supervision for my work, have an enhanced disclosure, and have professional indemnity insurance in place.

Allison has worked in the NHS as a consultant clinical psychologist. She specialised in the field of Adult Mental Health and gained extensive experience in tackling a range of difficulties, including treating the effects of trauma.
After 30 years of working in the NHS Allison moved into independent practice.
Allison is both a qualified clinical psychologist and psychotherapist. She has also completed specialist post qualification training in CAT (Cognitive Analytic Therapy) & and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing).
Clinical psychology involves working with individuals across the lifespan utilising a range of psychological approaches, in particular, CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy). CBT therapy is a treatment which focuses on how our thoughts, beliefs and attitudes are interconnected and affect our feelings and behaviour. It is considered helpful for a range of conditions such as OCD or health anxiety.
Alongside working as a clinical psychologist, Allison spent 7 years training as a group analytic psychotherapist. Group analytic psychotherapy integrates psychoanalytical and social psychological perspectives, recognising that we exist within the context of groups, whether family or other groups, including the wider community. Training focuses on therapy in both individual and group settings - this approach can be helpful in both.
CAT (Cognitive Analytic Therapy) is an integrative therapy, including integrating CBT and psychoanalytic approaches. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing). is a therapy which was developed to help people deal with the symptoms and emotional distress which are associated with traumatic or disturbing life experiences.
You may be considering therapy to address specific difficulties such as depression, the impact of trauma, or difficulties in relationships with others, or you may have a wish for personal growth. Allison considers that her training & experience allow her to adopt and integrate different approaches in a way that may best suit the needs of each individual. Further, she recognises the therapeutic relationship an essential element of therapy, creating a safe space where therapist and client can
work collaboratively & with compassion to gain an understanding of matters & work to achieve change.
Allison offers a free 20 minute phone consultation as an opportunity to discuss what you are hoping to gain from therapy and whether it is considered that her approach may be helpful to you, how you may work together.

Angela Robb is an MNCS Professional Accredited Counsellor and EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner, qualified and experienced in working with children, young people, and adults. Angela established her private practice, Purple Swan Counselling in response to demand for private counselling for young people in her local area of Midlothian, and now focusses on treating young people age 16+ and adults presenting with a wide range of issues.
First a volunteer counsellor, then an employee of MYPAS (Midlothian Young People’s Advice Service), Angela found that many young people were presenting with symptoms of trauma. This led her to discover and train in EMDR Therapy – a powerful, evidenced based approach to treating psychological trauma. Angela is passionate about normalising mental ill-health as something that we can all experience and helping people to alleviate distressing symptoms to allow them to move forward positively with their lives.
In her previous banking career, after surviving the near collapse of the banking system, various restructures and threats of redundancy, Angela chose to retrain in 2012 to work in the field of mental health. Angela’s challenging personal and professional life experiences equip her to understand and empathise with clients in an authentic and gentle way that allows them to feel validated, heard and understood.
Angela is at MYSA Therapy Rooms on a Tuesday for face-to-face appointments and works online on other days. Angela is a recognised provider of mental health services for various private medical insurance clients including Bupa, Cigna and Aviva and supports injured clients via rehabilitation and case management companies. Self-funding clients are also welcome on a short or long-term basis. As an ally of the LGBTQ community, Angela offers a welcoming safe zone to all clients. ‘The swan and the colour purple are both associated with transformation. Purple is also said to calm the mind and nerves and encourage creativity. Like the famous story of the ugly duckling who turned into a beautiful swan, counselling is a transformational process. It may take time and it requires effort but can bring great changes.’
